Film Ruski konzul

Today, you must be a friend first, and only then a person

Exciting film by Miroslav Lekić based on the novel by Vuk Drašković, RUSSIAN CONSUL, takes us back to the dramatic years that can be considered key moments of the Kosovo crisis, which will define the future coexistence of Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo.

The main character of the film, Serbian doctor-psychiatrist Ilija Jugović (Nebojša Dugalić), after the death of his patient in Belgrade, is punished by the Party and sent to Kosovo, to Prizren, where he gets a job as a general practitioner in the local hospital. There, he meets history professor Ljubo Božović, a self-proclaimed RUSSIAN CONSUL (Žarko Laušević), seemingly a psychiatric patient who claims that "Russia will soon become Russia again, and Kosovo will again be Serbian." Against him, local Albanian power brokers, hidden separatists, also members of the Communist Party and officials, turn. The most powerful among them, Halit Beriša (Visar Vishka), uses various cruel pressures to expel Serbs from Kosovo: he conducts violence against Serbian children in schools, intimidates the local population, deprives them of healthcare, harasses families, and instills insecurity and anxiety in them. Ljubo Božović is next on the list, with Beriša trying to evict him from his house and force him to leave Kosovo. The RUSSIAN CONSUL refuses to sell his house and clashes with Beriša. Dr. Ilija Jugović steps in to protect him...
