Last Saturday, KUD Sloga from Vicenza and the Serbian Supplementary School in Italy organized the once highly popular "Games Without Borders" with the support of MTEL Global and MTEL Italija. The event took place in Torri di Quartesolo, and despite the rain and bad weather, a large number of people from this part of Italy gathered, socialized, and participated in the games.
Due to weather conditions, the games were held in a nearby hall. Children's teams demonstrated agility and competitive spirit through a variety of games. Boys and girls took turns on different obstacle courses, reminding their parents of some forgotten games from their youth. Activities included dribbling the ball through obstacles, jumping, running, assembling puzzles, and fishing. The competition featured diverse disciplines that reminded everyone of the joy of playing and the importance of games in children's development. All participants received t-shirts, and medals were awarded to the winning teams.
After the games, a cultural and entertainment program followed for all the guests. Children's folklore groups performed songs and dances from various parts of Serbia and the region, with the entire program accompanied by continuous applause and excitement from the audience.
In addition to children and parents, the event was attended by prominent guests such as Minister without Portfolio Djordje Milicevic, academic Darko Tanaskovic, many priests, representatives of the Serbian Alliance, consuls, and other dignitaries.
Mr. Milicevic, who oversees matters related to Serbia's relationship with its diaspora, emphasized the importance of sports activities through the "Children's Games Without Borders" event. He stated, "These games, which have been held since 2016, not only provide children with opportunities for fun and competition but also serve as a vital way for them to develop teamwork, fair play, and a healthy lifestyle. Through sports, we learn how to work together, respect each other, and strive to be the best we can be."
He presented textbooks and flags to the children attending the Serbian supplementary school in Italy. The minister also expressed his joy at the growing number of students in these supplementary schools, noting that today, 9,704 students of Serbian descent are enrolled in schools across 22 countries worldwide. The curriculum in these schools complements regular education with subjects such as "Serbian language", "My Homeland Serbia," and "Basics of Serbian culture".
Mr. Milicevic emphasized the vital role children play in preserving and nurturing the values upon which the Serbian people are built. He stated, "Our future, our children, are the strength that will continue to safeguard and cherish the values foundational to the Serbian nation. We want to help you fall even more in love with Serbia and maintain a close connection with your homeland. When you complete your education, we hope you bring that knowledge back to Serbia, where we always await you with open arms."
The games concluded, as expected, with a singing, and the organizers promised to see everyone again next year, hoping the event will be even bigger and more joyful. For nearly a decade, these games have served as a reason for gathering and bonding, becoming a tradition that, as they say, should not be changed.
