The famous novel by Jelena Bacic Alimpic has been adapted into a TV series

The TV series "Ringispil" tells the story of a young girl's dream to become a great ballerina. Read the full story.

On the Superstar TV channel, the series “Ringispil” ("The Carousel") is set to premiere, based on the novel of the same name by the renowned journalist Jelena Bacic Alimpic. Her debut novel, which has sold over 220,000 copies and has been translated into numerous languages, follows the rise and career of a young ballerina, Ana Balint.

Ana dreams of becoming a great ballerina, but her path is filled with challenges. Although she was born on a modest farm in Vojvodina, with little chance of achieving her dreams, Ana manages to succeed thanks to her extraordinary talent. She reaches the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, achieving European fame and grand success.

Ana’s childhood was marked by the unhappy marriage of her mother, who came from a well-off family. Despite her parents' objections, Ana's mother married a poor young man. Ana also formed a close friendship with a boy from the village, Djordje, who would love her until his death. Her journey to fame was supported by her mother, who, recognizing Ana’s talent, moved with her to Belgrade. There, she even worked as a maid so that her daughter could pursue ballet.

Although Ana carried deep emotional pain for leaving behind her father, grandmother, the village with its carousel, and, of course, her dear friend Djordje, her talent proved stronger than all those sorrows. Thanks to the connections of her teacher and mentor, Klara, Ana moved to Russia. Her legs trembled when she first stepped onto the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, but it was the moment she had been waiting for. In Russia, she also encountered the greatest love of her life, though forbidden—Sergej Pavlovich, a journalist and critic.

The young actress Nevena Nerandzic plays the main character. "For me as an actress, the biggest challenge was mastering ballet. I'm not a ballerina; I'm an actress. I believe I succeeded in this. People will enjoy this series. We worked on an era where attention had to be paid to how we speak, as well as how we hold our bodies," said Nevena.

The series "Ringispil" was produced by Telekom Srbija, Film Danas, and Dandelion Productions. The dramatization of the novel was handled by Natasa Drakulic, while the series was directed by Milos Kodemo. The main cast includes Nevena Nerandzic, Milos Vlalukin, Slavica Vucetic, Igor Djordjevic, and Vjera Mujovic.

This is not just a story of eternal love between a man and a woman; it is a tale about choices, a brilliant career through which we explore the culture and history of ballet and powerful Russia, as well as the vanished world of Vojvodina in the 1930s. It is a story about the people who are always by our side, making us happy, but whom we often hurt first, yet they remain forever with us out of love.
