A true epic action spectacle you simply have to see!

“Volja sinovljeva" ("A Son’s Will”) is a Serbian adventure sci-fi film from 2024 - a genre not often seen in our region. Broadly speaking, it falls under fantasy, a globally popular category also loved by many across the former Yugoslavia, even though such films are rarely made here. You can now watch it in the MOVE Video Club at great price.

The story takes place in a near post-apocalyptic future, after a nuclear war, where a small community lives a secluded life on a farm - growing crops and paying taxes to the city. A mysterious blind gusle player named Jovan wanders through the ruined world, singing the ballad “Volja sinovljeva” which tells the story of this humble community of wheat seed growers and their everyday struggles. They are in constant conflict with roaming tribes and fiercely resist the tyranny of the rulers from the last surviving city, refusing to submit to its control. In a world stripped of law and order, chaos and anarchy reign. The economy runs on bartering, and the most valuable currency is a bullet. While searching for his kidnapped sister, Jovan falls in love with a young woman named Andjelija. With her help, he makes his way to the city - where he’ll be forced to choose a side in a decisive battle for the future of civilization.

This is a story of good and evil - from the dawn of time to the present day. An epic adventure inspired by Serbian tradition, set in a distant future. Directed by Nemanja Ceranic and written by Strahinja Madzarevic, the film features a stellar cast. In the leading roles are Igor Bencina, Isidora Simijonovic, Sergej Trifunovic, Marta Bjelica, Jovo Maksic, Milos Bikovic, and many others.

"Volja sinovljeva" is something we haven’t really seen in our region before. It’s a disaster movie, framed within the post-apocalyptic genre, and follows the classic arc where the protagonist - initially an outsider - rises to greatness under pressure,” said Igor Bencina, who plays the role of Jovan in the film. He also emphasized that, while the movie is highly stylized, the actors made a conscious effort to find authenticity in their characters - something viewers could emotionally connect with. Interestingly, the production faced a pause due to financial difficulties, but filming eventually resumed and the project was completed.
